Kerang Lions Club

Welcome from our President.

Welcome to the web site of the Lions Club of Kerang.

I have the honour of being President for the 2011-12 year as our membership of 29 active and dedicated men and women carry out their commitment to follow our motto and serve our local, national and international communities.

Locally we support all sections of our community with participation in projects ranging from Youth of the Year and Junior Public Speaking for the young to Meals on Wheels and social activities for the elderly and Gun-fire Breakfast on Anzac Day for the Returned Service personnel and their families.

Nationally and internationally we give our support to MD and International Conventions by either participating in projects and/or donating to relief efforts as called upon.

We take this opportunity to thank LCIF, ALF, V-6 Foundation, Lions Clubs and members of the public who donated funds to enable us to assist those of our farming community whose properties were inundated by flood waters during our January 2010 flood.

The funds were distributed by a joint committee comprising our club, the Rotary Club of Kerang, the Baptist Community and the Shire of Gannawarra. This may sound like an odd combination but we found early in our relief work that these groups all had the same aim and the most efficient way of distributing our combined available funds was to not get each others way but to coordinate our joint efforts for the benefit of all.

One magnificent idea that emerged from this committee was the production of “Kerang Flood Relief Vouchers” which were distributed to flood affected farmers for redemption at Kerang business houses. A win for the depressed local business economy as well as getting much needed assistance to families.

We thoroughly recommend this course of action for any other club that, unfortunately, finds itself in a similar situation.

We also have a very strong bond of family within our club with every member participating in our many and various activities and working together in harmony to provide a better life for those less fortunate while at the same time enjoying each others’ companionship and friendship.

In all – it’s great to be a Lion – especially in Kerang.

Peter Niall.
